SUMMARY:2017 ACBC Africa Conference: Racism - When Colour Divides
DESCRIPTION:Register Now\n  \n\n\n\n\n\nDear Christian Friends and Partners in Ministry\,\n \n\nWe live in a country where Christianity and racism permeates every facet of society. At one time in our country discrimination on the basis of the colour of a person’s skin was legalized and imposed on people. Historically\, a system of segregation and oppression was formalised and lived out by many people over decades and although apartheid was legally ended through ballots\, internal fears and prejudices continue to affect the hearts of some people. Sadly\, if we look at the Church of Christ we see that racism isn’t just an issue with which people outside the church are struggling. It is a struggle that is still impacting the church and people who are part of the church.\n \n\nThe question then becomes how do we respond to racism? How do we help those who are being affected\, knowingly or unknowingly\, by racist beliefs? How do we help people who want to respond rightly to the impact of racism in their lives and be rid of hold over beliefs and practices? As Christians\, we must have an answer. The 2017 Annual ACBC Conference\, ‘Racism; When Colour Divides’ will address issues related to racism in a relevant and meaningful way. Failure to understand and  apply God’s plan for reconciliation between himself and finite sinful men has influenced the way people relate to other people.\n \n\nThe speakers at the 2017 ACBC conference will explore the biblical understanding of God\, man and the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and show how an unawareness of these truths continues to fuel and motivate unbiblical beliefs and desires that energise those who see themselves as superior and/or inferior.\n \n\nSome of the specific issues that will be addressed at this ACBC conference are:\n\n How do we align ourselves with God’s Word and avoid the trappingsof external compliance and conformity to the views of the society in which we live?\n How should we counsel a person whoblames his/her problems on racial discrimination.\n Should our churches be multicultural churches? Why so?\n How do we counsel and disciple people who have been affected by racist viewsdevelop cross racial relationships that honour God?\n What does change look like for a person who thinks of himself/herselfas a victim of racism?\n How does Christlikeness lead to uninterrupted and fruitful cross racial living?\n How do we lay aside the old manner of life (Titus 3:5) and put on love\, compassion and tenderness towards others?\n What does Christlikeness look like in a multicultural body of believers.\n Is racial equality the goal?\n How do we counsel both the racist and the person who has experienced racism?\n How does the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ relate to solving the problem of racism?\n A personal testimony of someone who has experienced racism and how he handled it.\n How does Genesis 1 – 3 relate to the problem of racism?\n \n\n\nPlease join us August 9\, 10\, 11 & 12 as we explore these and other important issues relating to the topic of racism.\n \n\n\n\n\nPlenary Session Speakers\n\n Dr Wayne Mack (Director of ACBC Africa) -- Dr Wayne Mack is a graduate of Wheaton College\, Philadelphia Seminary and Westminster Theological Seminary as well as having had extensive graduate studies at La Salle University\, Eastern Baptist Seminary\, Wheaton Graduate School and Trinity Evangelical Seminary.
